Full Review: D-Luxe Burger at Disney Springs

On the final day of our trip we like to head to Disney Springs, go for a walk, do any last minute shopping, and have lunch before we head home.  With all the new shopping and restaurants at Disney Springs to try, its been a great new last day tradition.

Burger3_Outside.jpg
D-Luxe Burger at Disney Springs

We tried D-Luxe Burger on our most recent trip, doesn’t it look quaint?  D-Luxe Burger is quick service, you order at a cashier and they give you a pager and you pick up your food, in a bag, around the corner and take it to your table (there is plenty of seating).

Burger2_Counter.jpg
As you walk in to D-Luxe Burger

D-Luxe Burger sells, obviously, burgers and fries, and they do it really well considering its their namesake.  I have to say, we were pleasantly surprised by both the quality and quantity of food we got.  It was a bit pricey for burgers and fries, but the food was really great overall.

Burger12_BBQ.jpg

We got 2 burgers and a large order of fries.  Pictured above is the Barbecue Classic Burger (Signature Blend topped with a Fried Onion Ring, Smoked Gouda, Bacon, Barbecue Sauce, and Lettuce, $11.99), and below is the Cluck Burger (Ground Chicken Patty, Garlic Herb Sauce, Avocado, Lettuce, and Tomato, $10.99).

One of my favorite parts about D-Luxe Burger are the dipping sauces you can try.  Yes, you can get them all, or just a couple, whatever you’d like!  It was fun to try them all and dip the fries into them.  Sauce options include three mustard and honey, garlic ranch, curry ketchup, chipotle mayo, horseradish, and buffalo blue cheese.  There is also your standard mustard and ketchup available.

Large order of fries at D-Luxe Burger

The fries (above) really stood out.  They’re hand cut, hot and salty and perfect.  The only thing that bothered me is that the large is… pretty small.  While we definitely had enough food the cost/size ratio was a bit off.

Burger4_Drinks.jpg
Beverage station at D-Luxe Burger

D-Luxe Burger has a really great looking selection of Gelato Shakes and Floats. We did not partake as there was already way too much food, and we got fountain drinks instead, but I’d really love to try one of them at some point. Some of them sound really interesting, like the Smoked Bourbon Gelato Shake, or the Vanilla Porter Gelato Shake, or the Godiva Chocolate and Strawberry Malt Gelato Shake.

I have to say, I also really love the decor of D-Luxe Burger.  Its designed to look like an “old Florida” farmhouse, and its just really cute.  There is ample seating, even outdoor seating, and its really quite nice and comfortable.  They also give you plenty of napkins to go with your gigantic, messy, burger, as you can see above.

The only thing you might need to watch out for is that D-Luxe Burger does not have its own bathroom.  You have to leave the restaurant to go outside to the public Disney Springs bathrooms.  Its not a big deal, but I did wander around for a few minutes before I figured it out.

So Drinking Ever After, what are your thoughts on D-Luxe Burger at Disney Springs?

I really recommend it if you’re looking for burgers and fries.  You might want to split a burger, large fry, and gelato shake with someone (if you can possibly agree what to get) as we did get a ton of food.  Definitely, DEFINITELY get the dipping sauces.  Experiment with adding them to your burger, fries, and different combinations.  Its great!

Disney Full Review: Star Wars Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party

Before I even start this review, I’m going to say that I highly and fully recommend the Star Wars Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  As long as you like Star Wars.  And I guess if you’re indifferent but you really like dessert.

SW16.jpg
Star Wars!!

The dessert party costs $69.00 per adult and $39.00 per child (tax and gratuity are included in the cost) and comes with unlimited dessert and savory snacks, unlimited alcohol/non-alcoholic beverages, a souvenir Chewbacca Stein, and reserved viewing for the Star Wars fireworks show.

SW2.jpg
Star Wars A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party:  Lanyard with map of included events.  You can access all of these areas throughout the day without paying to enter the dessert party, but some of these areas will be closed off during the dessert party.

The location of the dessert party portion of the evening is inside the Star Wars Launch Bay.  The tables are all standing cocktail tables.  You can wander around the Launch Bay during the party, and there are costumes and props from the movies throughout the area, as well as a few costume characters.  Stormtroopers walked around randomly (we thought they could be a bit more interactive), and there were Jawas that were a bit more interactive in one of the rooms.  There are a few rooms to choose from in regards to tables, the “funnest” room is probably the one where the Jawas hang out, which is partially patterned to look like the Mos Eisley Cantina, but if you want a place to sit try to get there a little early and find a table near one of the benches along the wall.  There are also storm troopers that walk around the area during the party, though we wished they had a little more interaction.  The highlight of character interaction during the dessert party was definitely the Jawas, so make sure you seek them out.

SW1.jpg
Dessert buffet table and standing cocktail tables before the dessert party started.  In the back (behind the employees) is the bar/drink area.  In the very right hand corner of the picture is the frozen nutella serving area.  Its easy to miss but make sure you make your way over to it!
sw14
Jawa at the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party

Lets talk about the drinks.  Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are available.  Of the alcoholic drink options, all were honestly very meh.  I tried all of them, and my favorite thing to do was mix the overly-acidic watermelon lemonade drink with the non-alcoholic but very much overly sweet “Jettison Juice”.  The line for drinks can get LONG, there is only 1 bar and bartender, but they try and mitigate a rush for the bar upon entry by handing out drinks as soon as you walk in.  On another note, we tipped the bartender and he gave us one of the strongest drinks I have ever had.  You will also want to get a drink before you head outside for the fireworks (they’ll give you a warning) as there are no drinks available outside.  Plus you can stick the cup in your Chewbacca stein for some added outdoor fun.

sw4
Non-alcoholic drinks.  There was also coffee, tea, and soda available.  The menu is hard to read (it was dark in there), but it says “Jettison Juice:  Passion Orange Guava Juice with mango syrup.  Lunar Lemonade:  Watermelon Lemonade.  Soft Drinks.  Water.”
sw3
Alcoholic drink menu:  I liked the Cosmic Citrus Twist the best, but it was better once I added “Jettison Juice” to it.  Swamp Milk was definitely interesting, but I got the impression it wasn’t very well liked because the bartender gave me a small sample to try before I committed.

And onto the food!  We had actually done a similar dessert party during Star Wars Weekends a few years ago, and my main complaint was that there was TOO MUCH dessert (I know, I know, weird complaint, but it seriously ended up making me sick from all the sugar).  There is, of course, a gigantic variety of desserts to try. But there are also some savory snack options like hummus, “lightsaber” olive and cheese sabers, fruit, etc.  I managed to make a meal out of it and skip anything substantial for dinner.  My top recommendation for dessert is the blue milk panna cotta (seriously I dream about it, I must have had 4, at least). If you read other reviews they will most definitely also touch on the bread pudding, which was good but a little too sweet with the addition of candy to it, and the frozen nutella.  The bread pudding is self serve and has toppings available like cookie or brownie crumbles, fresh berries, whipped cream, vanilla sauce, and chocolate sauce.   But guys.  Get the frozen nutella.  Its amazing.  I’m not sure what I was expecting, but its basically whipped nutella (so not that heavy) that is flash frozen with liquid nitrogen, and you can top it with raspberry or chocolate sauce.  Seriously.  Get it.  Seriously.  It also looks disgusting in the picture I took so I’m skipping that one.

SW13.jpg
Buffet table at the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party

When you book the dessert party you will get a reservation time of 6:30 or 6:45pm (probably, I didn’t check every date), depending on the timing of the fireworks show, which will start around 7:45 or 8:00pm.  The fireworks show is 14 minutes long, and about 15 minutes before hand you will be led (by stormtroopers!) outside to a reserved viewing area where you will be given your (empty) souvenir Chewbacca stein.  There is no seating in the reserved viewing area.  We were close to the end of the line of people and still had a great view of the fireworks/show, even though I’m only about 5’1 on a good day.  The fireworks show is one of the coolest things I have ever seen at Disney, and makes use of projection effects, lasers, music, and fireworks.  Its seriously awesome.

sw15
Movie props in the Launch Bay

So Drinking Ever After, what are your thoughts on “A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios?

If you’re a fan of Star Wars, you should consider this experience.  Even if you’re not a giant fan of Star Wars, its definitely a cool experience.  I guess if you HATE Star Wars I wouldn’t recommend it.  Overall, the food is great, especially considering the addition of savory items and fruit, the drinks are not that great but free, and the fireworks are amazing.  Overall, I’m really glad we did it, and we would certainly consider booking another reservation on an upcoming trip.

I’ll also add this slightly related tip:  If you or someone in your party has the Disney Chase Visa card there is a Star Wars character meet and greet in the Launch Bay daily from 11:00am to 4:00pm.  We happened upon it by chance and met Kylo Ren with absolutely no line, which was really cool.  You also get free photo downloads.  Keep an eye out while you’re there.

Snackin’ Around Disney’s Epcot: Germany Pavilion

The Germany Pavilion in the World Showcase at Epcot is one my favorite places to take a break, sit, and people watch.  I love to sit by the fountain with a beer and a bratwurst.

Germany_3.jpg

While the Germany Pavilion is known for the buffet style Biergarten Restaurant (which is also awesome), there is a great quick service food option in the back of the Pavilion on the right hand side, called Sommerfest.  The menu isn’t large, but the food you get is plentiful.  We usually get an Oktoberfest, a Schöfferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen, and a Bratwurst that we split.  The bratwurst is served on a freshly baked Roll with Sauerkraut and House-made Paprika Chips, and is about $10.00.  We skip the sauerkraut because neither of us are fans.

Germany_2.jpg
Bratwurst from Sommerfest sans sauerkraut with 2 pink grapefruit hefeweizens.

Highly recommended is the Schöfferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen, while that might not sound appetizing to some of you, I promise this 50/50 blend of Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen and carbonated juice is refreshing and light, and a perfect beer to sip along with the bratwurst that you totally need to get.

Germany_1.jpg
Okay, sometimes we get 2.  Its a lot of food.

So Drinking Ever After, what are your thoughts on Sommerfest at the Germany Pavilion in Epcot?

We try to go to Sommerfest and sit and people watch at least once per trip, if not twice. We have a tendency to try to do everything during a trip, which means we get tired pretty easily. We make it a point to have this downtime at Epcot to sit and take everything in. Even if you dont decide to stick around in the Germany Pavilion, do yourself a favor and get a Schöfferhofer Pink Grapefruit Hefeweizen for your walk around the World Showcase!

Try This!: Moscow Mules at Walt Disney World

You might think this is an odd topic for a post.   I disagree (obviously, because I’m writing it), because I drink so many Moscow Mules I consider myself a “connoisseur” of them.   Seriously.

mm_menu_bright
Moscow Mule on the WDW Drink Menu

The first time I had a Moscow Mule I was browsing the standard drink menu at Disney, lamenting the loss of my most beloved drink, the Citrus Infusion (you can find the recipe here, but its never the same when I make it at home).  I wasn’t seeing anything that jumped out at me.  The best bartender in all of Walt Disney World, Walter, who works at Tambu Lounge, suggested the mule.  I thought, “well this one has a cool cup” and ordered it.

That was the beginning of my love affair with the Moscow Mule.

MM_Tambu.jpg
Moscow Mule from Tambu Lounge at the Polynesian

For those of you who have never had one, its a pretty standard drink.  Vodka (I prefer Tito’s, sometimes then called an “American Mule”, but you may have another favorite), ginger beer (I prefer Goslings, but also like Fever Tree), and lime.  Its light, refreshing, and it comes in a copper cup which makes it seem fancy.

I’ve had Moscow Mules all across Disney property, and my favorite pour is at Tambu Lounge at the Polynesian.  Its really just proportions of vodka/lime/ginger beer, but they get them perfect.

MM_Boathouse.jpg
Moscow Mule from the Boathouse at Disney Springs

You might think that its an easy drink to make.  But, despite having one of the better Moscow Mules I’ve had at Tambu Lounge, there is one Disney restaurant that made the worst Moscow Mule I have ever had.  And I don’t say that lightly.  I’ve ordered them everywhere in the US from Florida to Seattle, and I’ve had good ones and bad ones, and this one was objectively the worst.

So, what Disney restaurant is the culprit?  The Boathouse at Disney Springs.  For somewhere so expensive and classy that boasts the drink on their menu, it was SO. BAD.  Way too much lime, an inexplicably large amount of ice, and flat ginger beer.  They use Stoli, and I generally do like Stoli, but it didn’t work with the flavor of the ginger beer.

So, Drinking Ever After, what is the moral of the story?

If you’re looking for a light and refreshing drink, go with the Moscow Mule.  Just, don’t get it from the Boathouse.  Especially if its your first one, it will just tarnish the experience for you.

And, just for good measure because its my favorite drink, I’ve had some kick ass versions of the drink that you should try if you’re ever in any of these locations:

Wood Pizza New Orleans made the best standard Moscow Mule I’ve ever had (on their menu as an American Mule).

Giving points for creativity and their own ginger syrup and charged water, Bar Tonique, also in New Orleans, is an all around amazing bar that serves a great drink.

Another with points for creativity is Copper 29 Bar in Coral Gables, FL.

Try one the next time you go out!  Hopefully, you wont be disappointed.

Disney Full Review: Pop Century

Oh value resorts at Walt Disney World, and the love/hate relationship we have.  We have stayed at Disney’s Pop Century a multitude of times, the price per night is usually around $100 (sometimes less, sometimes more), so if we’re going for a weekend trip we usually stay there due to its relative cheapness.  Pop Century is one of the newer value hotels (with Art of Animation being the newest), and is patterned after “decades” of entertainment from the 1950’s through the 1990’s.

PC1.jpg
From the parking lot at Disney’s Pop Century Resort

All of the value resorts are, very decidedly, Disney.  In a somewhat in-your-face, sometimes creepy, way.

PC2.jpg
Giant “Lady and the Tramp” statue at Disney’s Pop Century.  Looming over you.

Pop Century has everything you need in a bare-bones sort of way compared to the moderate resorts.  It has a gift shop, quick service cafeteria, a few pools (no water slides), an outdoor pool bar (no inside bars), an arcade, and a running trail.  So, if you’re looking for a trip and do not want/need any of the “frills” you get at a moderate, you cant go wrong with one of the values.

The rooms are your standard hotel rooms.  They have beds, a sink, a shower, a toilet, a refrigerator, a phone, a TV…  You’ll be comfortable while you’re sleeping and be able to shower.  Still no digital clock though, which annoys me.

pcroom1
Disney’s Pop Century Room
PCRoom2.jpg
Disney’s Pop Century Bathroom

I reviewed a moderate resort, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, here.  There are a few things you might want to know about Pop Century before you book.

The resort boasts a pretty big gift shop and a really big cafeteria with a lot of seating.  The gift shop has everything you need, including toiletries/etc.  The cafeteria serves your standard fare.  There is no sit-down restaurant option at Pop Century, but if you’re just going to your room to sleep that shouldn’t bother you.   Since there is only one cafeteria option there is no way to defer some of the guests anywhere else, so the cafeteria is particularly busy, especially so in the mornings with everyone trying to grab breakfast before they head to the parks.  You can see part of the gift shop, some of the cafeteria seating, and the cafeteria in the pictures above.  These were taken at an off-time, so everything was pretty empty.

PC_Pool.jpg
I believe this is the “Hippy Dippy” Pool at Pop Century.  Very themed.

The pools are pools.  You wont find the water slides or water parks that you might find at one of the moderates or deluxe hotels.  But, if you’re looking to swim or for a mid-day break they’re large and have life guards.

PC_Bus.jpg
Pop Century bus waiting area.

The busses are just as prompt as any hotel, but if you’re waiting in line there is no shade or seating without giving up your spot.  If the people around you are nice and willing to hold your place you might be able to talk them into letting you sit in the shade.  There are monitors that tell you the arrival time of busses, and we found them very accurate.

PC_Bridge.jpg
Walkway from Pop Century to Art of Animation in the morning.

My favorite area of Pop Century is the walkway over to Art of Animation, which crosses over a river.  There are two seating areas over to either side right before the bridge, and I like to grab coffee in the morning and sit over there, away from the business of the cafeteria.  Its very quiet and peaceful.  I think they’re smoking areas but they did not seem very well traveled.

PC_Seating.jpg
The very quiet seating area near the walkway to Art of Animation.

So, Drinking Ever After, do you recommend Pop Century?

Yes, depending on the type of vacation you’re looking for.  Overall, the value of a value resort is great.  If you’re looking to go to the parks and use the room to sleep and shower you’re not going to be disappointed in what you’re getting.  If you like to hang around the hotel at all, I recommend a moderate resort.

I will say that there are a few cons to Pop Century (and I’m assuming any value resort).  Due to its relative friendliness in price per night, school groups usually stay at value resorts.  This adds to the business and nosiness of the resort.  The value resorts are gigantic, so at park close with everyone leaving at the same time, you’ll be waiting in line for a bus for a long, long time.  Be ready to stand if you’re able.  The lines were definitely longer than any of the moderates I’ve stayed at and I’m assuming its because the values are both busier due to the prevalence of school groups and their overall size.  It can be difficult to find a quiet, adult, place to relax after you’re back from the parks, because there is only one pool bar.

Snackin’ Around Disney’s Magic Kingdom: Pinocchio Village Haus

I actually think the food options at Magic Kingdom are somewhat lacking.  There are some cult favorites like the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich from Sleepy Hollow or the Dole Whip at Aloha Isle.  But if you just want a small and quick lunch the options at Magic Kingdom aren’t as great as Animal Kingdom.  Its mostly your standard chicken fingers/etc.  That being said, I have never waited in the ridiculously long lunch line at Be Our Guest, which does look like it has a great menu.

PVH_1.jpg
Pinocchio Village Haus Menu (December 2016)

On our last trip we ended up at Pinocchio Village Haus.  We got a sausage and pepper flatbread as I have a ridiculous aversion to pepperoni, which isn’t listed on the menu anymore.  It was … edible.  For a flatbread pizza.  Nothing to write home about though.  We also got a side of fries which were your standard fries.  Overall it was a good meal to split between 2 people for lunch.

pvh4
Sausage and pepper flatbread and side of fries at Pinocchio Village Haus

What stands out a little more about Pinocchio Village Haus is this upstairs seating area which actually has a great view of the back of the castle, carousel, etc.  And it was pretty shady and empty while we were there.

PVH2.jpg

PVH3.jpg

So Drinking Ever After, what are your thoughts on Pinocchio Village Haus?

Well… If you’re looking for something somewhat cheap, quick, and to provide sustenance, then sure I recommend it.  I’m sure Be Our Guest for quick service lunch is the best option, but this could be a solid choice depending on the circumstances.  If those circumstances are “I am walking by and need some food right now”, I guess.

Drinkin’ Around Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Nomad Lounge

I really love Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  There are so many different trails and interesting things to look at, and I love watching the animals on the Maharajah Jungle Trek and the Gorilla Falls Exploration trail.  I wrote about some of the cool things at Animal Kingdom in my Snackin’ Around Disney:  Animal Kingdom post.

ak1
“Tree of Life” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

What  I don’t love about Animal Kingdom is that it gets HOT walking around all day.  Normally, this is a 1/2 day park for us (and closes early anyway), but after Rivers of Light debuts will extend the time you spend in the park.

AnimalKingdom_Flags.jpg
Looking up in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom, just some of the many details of the park.

In the past, we’ve trekked our way over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge to get a snack and a drink at the Victoria Falls Lounge and take a break from the sun (you can take a bus from Animal Kingdom).  There is also a Rainforest Cafe that is outside the park entrance, where you can take a break.

NomadLounge1.jpg
Nomad Lounge entrance

While Animal Kingdom has an outdoor bar (Dawa Bar), there is very limited seating and they are right in the middle of the “hustle and bustle” of the park.  But, recently, a new restaurant and lounged opened up right inside Animal Kingdom.  Tiffins is the newest signature dining option inside the park.  Attached to Tiffins is Nomad Lounge.  We visited Nomad Lounge on our last trip and it became an instant tradition for Animal Kingdom days.

NL_Seting.png
Nomad Lounge exterior and interior seating.  The “banners” in the right hand picture are available for purchase for $1 each, and you can share your story about travels you’ve taken in your lifetime

Nomad Lounge has indoor and outdoor seating.  While we were there there was a napping baby and at least 2 adults who looked so comfortable they could nap.  Nomad Lounge has a small selection of appetizers, and a unique drink menu.   On this trip we sampled the Snow Leopard Salvation (Snow Leopard Vodka, Belle de Brillet Pear Liqueur, Mint, and Lime Juice topped with Ginger Beer) and the Jenn’s Tattoo (Ketel One Vodka, Watermelon, Hibiscus, and Lime Juice).

NL_Drinks.png
Nomad Lounge Jenn’s Tattoo and Snow Leopard Salvation

They were both delicious.  And big!  The Snow Leopard Salvation was really refreshing, perfect for a hot park day.  I didn’t think you could taste the pear liqueur very much, overall it tasted like a fruity and slightly minty Moscow Mule.  It was a solid choice.  Jenn’s Tattoo was very sweet.  A drink being overly sweet isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it was less refreshing than the Snow Leopard Salvation.  I really liked it, but as I was drinking it thought it could have benefitted from a splash of soda water and a squeeze of lime (I added a squeeze of lime, and it improved things).  We didn’t have a snack on this trip because Animal Kingdom has some very interesting food options and we had already eaten.

So Drinking Ever After, what are your thoughts on Nomad Lounge?

Nomad Lounge is a very welcome addition to Animal Kingdom, and I think a necessary addition.  There is a ton of (riverfront!) outdoor seating, its quiet and relaxed, and the food and drink options are unique while still being welcoming.  I highly recommend checking out Nomad Lounge for a mid-afternoon break.

Disney Full Review: Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar at Disney Springs

Jock Lindsey’s Hanger Bar is our absolute favorite place to grab a drink at Disney Springs.  Our new-ish, since Hanger Bar is somewhat new, first day tradition is to head to Disney Springs, get a drink (or two…) and a snack at Hangar Bar, and then go to Epcot for Illuminations.   We usually try to go at least twice when we’re there.

hangarbar1
Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar at Disney Springs

Boasting a creative drink menu, light snacks, and an amazing atmosphere, particularly if you like Indiana Jones, it is a spot I dont recommend missing.  The interior is a 1940’s airplane hangar, and as the story goes, it was built by Jock Lindsay (you may remember him from Raiders of the Lost Ark) and became a popular watering hole for travelers.  The exterior overlooks the lake, and if you’re lucky you might see an amphicar launch from The Boathouse next door.  Overall, its a great spot to sit and chill.  All seating is first come first serve, and we typically did not find it busy, but we usually go at off peak times.

HangarBar_IntExt.png
Hangar Bar interior (left), and exterior (right).  There are plenty of cool details to look at inside and outside, be sure to check them out!

We have sampled quite a few of the drinks on the menu.  Here they are with my rating (out of 5), and a comment.  I’ve combined some pictures to save a little space.

Bedtime Story  – Absolut Mandrin Vodka, Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur, Hibiscus Syrup, fresh Lemon Juice, and Iced Tea.  My Rating:  3.5/5.  This is a perfectly acceptable drink, its not very sweet and its pretty refreshing.  However, I don’t think its anything particularly amazing to write home about. I will say that my fiancé likes this drink more than me and rates it a 4/5.  The standout is the candied hibiscus flower on top.  Its edible, and amazing.  I’ve contemplated asking for a few of them in a to-go box to snack on.  But decided that would be weird.  Maybe not, I’m undecided.

Safari Sangria – South African Red Wine with Van Der Rum Tangerine Liqueur.  My Rating:  3/5.  I wasn’t a huge fan of this, I thought the tangerine liqueur would give it a little something extra but it just tasted like red wine to me.  That might be how you like your sangria though.

HangarBar_BedSang.png
Hangar Bar Bedtime Story and Safari Sangria. You can also see the custom coasters from bars and clubs in the Indiana Jones universe.

Bam’s Barnstormer – Gosling’s Black Seal Rum, Fever-Tree Ginger Beer, and fresh Lime Juice.  My Rating:  3.5/5.  This is really just a Dark and Stormy, but this doesn’t disappoint. The bartenders at Hangar Bar can mix a mean drink, even the “classics.” However, there are more exciting drinks on the menu.  This one is not pictured.

Air Pirate’s Mule – Knob Creek Disney Select Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon and fresh Lime Juice topped with Fever-Tree Ginger Beer.  My fiancé’s rating, because honestly I hate bourbon:  3.5/5.  His comment is “it was good, if you like bourbon.”  So, there you go.

Reggie’s Revenge – Florida Cane ‘Orlando Orange’ Vodka, Midori Melon Liqueur, White Cranberry Juice, and fresh Lime Juice.  My Rating: 4.5/5.  This was my favorite drink, until I had the Cool Headed Monkey.  Generally I really like drinks that are green for some reason, but this one is very refreshing, and a little tangy from the cranberry and lime juice.  This is one of the more popular drinks on the menu, I recommend giving it a try!

HangarBar_AirReggie.jpg
Hangar Bar Air Pilots Mule (on the left), and Reggie’s Revenge (on the right).  You can buy the cup for Reggie’s Revenge if you’d like a souvenir (and its glass as opposed to plastic, as so many souvenir cups tend to be).

Cool Headed Monkey – Starr African Rum, Van Der Hum Tangerine Liqueur, fresh Lime Juice, Watermelon, and Pineapple Juice.  My Rating: 4.75/5.  I was nervous about this because there are so many flavors going on, but I have to say this is my favorite out of all the drinks I’ve tried.  Its sweet, kind of like fruit punch (well, I guess its rum punch), but awesome.  And dangerous, I couldn’t taste the alcohol in this.

Aviator’s Flight – ¾-oz pour of each Single Malt Scotch Whisky – The Macallan 12 yr Speyside, Highland Park 12 yr Orkney Islands, and Bowmore 12 yr Islay.  I’m not going to rate this because its just 3 3/4 oz pours, which is pretty hard to mess up.  The way that its presented is pretty cool, you get the drinks on a wooden propeller.

HangarBar_MonkeyFlight.png
The Cool Headed Monkey and Aviator’s Flight.  That’s me taking a picture of my drink in the background.  You can buy the Cool Headed Monkey cup as well.
And now for the food!  We have sampled a bit less of the food, and the menu recently went through an overhaul.  The new one is still good and kept the favorites.  They also have a Holiday Menu which has dishes inspired by the most recent Holiday (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.), and a happy hour menu with some food options.  You can see the full menu here.

Air Pirates Pretzels – A flight of Everything Pretzels with spicy German Mustard and Beer Cheese Fondue.  My Rating: 4.75/5.  Pretzels go well with drinking, so I may be biased, but the sauces, particularly the spicy german mustard, really make these amazing.  Its a pretty big portion, and comes with plenty of dipping sauce.  And I love the presentation!  Just wait until they bring it to your table in a more grown up version of the “airplane” game (but don’t worry, they don’t try to feed you).

Rolling Boulders Sliders – Three-Runaway Brisket Meatballs with Tomato-Bacon Jam, House-made Pickles, Shredded Lettuce, and Tomato.  My (snarky) Rating: 3/5.  Okay, I really loved these before the menu overhaul.  They used to have tzatziki on them, and you should know by now how much I love tzatziki.  These are still good, but I miss the other ones.  Really, they probably deserve at least a 4/5, but man do I miss that tzatziki…

Junior’s Fedora Flatbread – A hit at the Jones’ holiday gatherings! Toasted Flatbread layered with Slow-roasted Turkey, Cranberry-Onion Jam, Butternut Squash, crisped Greens, Chèvre, and Candied Pecans finished with a splash of Sage Oil.  My Rating:  2.5/5.  So, I had this during Thanksgiving and it had a different name, it was called “Thanksgiving” something or other.  I think they changed the name and description to a more generic “holiday” theme.  Regardless, this was okay.  There is a lot going on with it, and its really just deli turkey and a bunch of toppings on a flatbread.  I wasn’t that impressed.  Get the pretzels or sliders instead.

HangarBar_Food.png

So, Drinking Ever After, what are your thoughts on Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar?

Well, clearly we have visited Jock Lindsay’s Hangar Bar quite a bit.  We think its great!  Definitely check it out when you’re in Disney Springs.  Get a drink, get the pretzels, hang out and enjoy the atmosphere, its worth it!
